In addition to 24 singles, four extended plays, three live albums, and 10 studio albums, Metallica has also won nine Grammy Awards. Hetfield is frequently cited as one of the best rhythm guitarists in the history of heavy metal.

Career
The British metal band Diamond Head, another significant influence on Hetfield, had a configuration that was comparable to Metallica’s early attempts with various vocal and guitar arrangements. Adding another guitarist, having John Roads play lead guitar, and inviting John Bush from Armored Saint (who later joined Anthrax) to sing for the band were a few of the ideas that were taken into consideration.
Hetfield (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Dave Mustaine (lead guitar), and Ron McGovney (bass), who was subsequently replaced by Cliff Burton, made up the band’s final lineup. Their early music was described as power metal by Hetfield. The phrase “thrash metal” was first used by Kerrang journalist Malcolm Dome in a February 1984 issue of Kerrang when he discussed the Anthrax song “Metal Thrashing Crazy.”
